MIA + CAM, AN EFFORTLESS WEDDING AT DUNKELD HOUSE HOTEL, SCOTLAND
They met in a nightclub and within weeks Mia had moved to England to be with Cam. Their story is energetic, passionate and so beautifully real, and that’s exactly what their wedding day was.
It’s a party from start to finish
They bonded over a love for music and being the centre of the dance floor, so that was the vision for their wedding day. We spent some time getting beautiful portraits before they rejoined their reception, and they’d planned a longer reception to allow them to really sink into it. An open spritz bar featured in the gardens, a saxophone player brought the music and the sun was shining while they spent time with their favourite people.
We don’t want to miss it
They had a vision for portraits but didn’t want to miss any of the fun. We planned in advance, scheduling time for just the two of them while their guests travelled back to the hotel for their confetti entrance. After their entrance, we stopped on the steps on the way to the beach and then rejoined the party from the other side, getting straight back into it without time spent simply getting from one place to the next. I love to plan portraits in this way, making stops along a short journey so you don’t feel as though you’re just walking from one location to the next. Instead, they’re done organically as we’re moving from spot to spot until we’re back where you want to be without feeling like you really left.
Stay late, it’s not even started yet
I usually have a flexible end time, staying for around 30 minutes after the first dance, or until I feel I have enough of the atmosphere. The party was a huge part for Mia + Cam and they wanted to really feel this aspect of their wedding day in their gallery. I stayed much later than usual, not leaving until 11pm, to make sure I was there for everything they wanted. I have rough guides I plan around for each wedding, but these are just guides - I’m there when you need me.
Your way, always
Many of my couples change outfits in the evening; something more comfortable, better for dancing, or a different, more sleek style. I often plan portraits for the outfit change - it’s the perfect way to break up your portraits throughout the day so you’re not out for too long at any one time - but Mia didn’t want to miss any more of the dance floor than necessary for changing. Instead, their evening shots are them on the dance floor, together, with friends, having the absolute time of their lives and really experiencing their wedding the way they wanted to. I come with ideas, but I always create a bespoke plan for your wedding. It’s spent how you want to spend it, always.
A blend of digital + 35mm film
Some of my favourite shots from this wedding are the 35mm film ones. Film is true, nostalgic, and depicts the most honest story. I think that’s why I love it so much for Mia + Cam - their wedding day was true to them and everything they wanted, they just existed in the perfect setting for them without trying to be anyone else. Film doesn’t lie and theirs feels so honest and genuine because that’s exactly what was photographed - people happy, laughing, having fun, dancing and singing their hearts out.
